Does YWAM Norway send out missionaries?
Yes! and we believe the Lord of the Harvest wants many more Norwegians out in missions. Currently (2009) we have 67 partners, 32 contacts (99 total) plus 74 children working in about 35 countries. “Partner” missionaries see YWAM Norway as their key sending agency, while “Contact” missionaries are sent by a church or other mission but desire to hold contact with YWAM. Fifty percent of these work in the 10/40 window – that area where most people have never heard gospel.
More than just sending them out, we do all we can to help them stay out and thrive. Of those now out the average length of service is just under 7 years. About 1/3 have as their primary task, evangelism and church-planting, another third work primarily with training of local workers and the remainder in a variety of what we call mercy ministries – for example among street kids, homeless and refugees and the poor – meeting all sorts of practical needs.
How do I find out if I have call to missions?
How do I know if I should go? Seek the Lord regularly alone and with wise counsellors asking Him to reveal his purposes, visit missions works, talk to missionaries, read missions stories and biographies, get to know immigrants around you, look for open doors to explore, research an unreached people group and commit to pray regularly for them, and eat at the local Indian restaurant . God is more interested in our knowing his will than we are. He will lead you. What he needs from us is seeking heart, like the analogy of turning a ship: it must be moving to turn. Move in the direction your heart is leading and trust God to direct you.
